|Short description Overview   Praziquantel is an anti-warm medication (anthelmintic). It works by preventing the newly hatched insect larvae (worms) in the body from multiplying or growing. The drug is used to treat the infections that are caused by the Schistosoma worms. These are worms that enter the body by passing through the skin after being in contact with contaminated water. These worms are found in the Middle Eastern countries, South America, Africa, parts of Asia and the Caribbean.    Praziquantel can also be prescribed to treat infections with liver flukes an infection caused by some type of worms found in East Asia. These worms enter the body when a person eats contaminated fish.   Praziquantel should not be used to treat parasitic infections in the eyes.
