Short description Overview   Furosemide is a water pill. It is used to prevent the body from absorbing too much salt thereby allowing the salt to be passed into urine. The drug is used to treat edema (fluid retention) in patients with liver disease, congestive heart failure, or kidney disorder like nephrotic syndrome. The drug is also prescribed to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).   Furosemide may be used to treat other conditions not mentioned in this guide.
